Purpose of the guideline: Pediatric pulmonary surgery is a critical component of pediatric thoracic surgery and is among the most common procedures performed. Types of pulmonary surgeries include lung biopsy, wedge/irregular lung resection, segmentectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, and lung transplantation. Surgical approaches encompass open surgery, thoracoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, among others. In recent decades, pediatric pulmonary surgery has made significant strides. However, due to its relatively late development and limited quantity, coupled with the involvement of multiple specialties in pediatric pulmonary surgery, there exist considerable variations in treatment approaches across different hospitals and among different practitioners. A comprehensive consensus and guidelines for indications and surgical methods in pediatric pulmonary surgery are currently lacking both domestically and internationally, highlighting the urgent need for expert consensus to guide clinical practice in this field.
